Dr. Jeffrey Post, curator of the Gems and Minerals Collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and honorary associate member of SMATCH-International, will deliver a lecture and answer questions in an event that is open to the public. Dr. Post will illustrate his remarks with slides of Brazilian gemstones from the Smithsonian collection of gems and minerals.
Jeffrey Post is a research geologist in the Mineral Sciences Department of the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum and, since 1991, curator of its gem and mineral collection. He holds a BS in geology and chemistry from the University of Wisconsin (Platteville), a PhD in chemistry from Arizona State University (ASU), and was a post doctoral research fellow in Harvard's Department of Geological Sciences. He is a member of the Mineralogical Society of America, serving as Councilor 1999-2002 and Associate Editor of American Mineralogist 1986-1990 and 1999-2002, and was awarded its Public Service Medal in 2001. He also is a member of the International Centre for Diffraction Data and the American Geophysical Union.
